DON’T BE FOOLED by the amendments to the Infrastructure Bill

DON’T BE FOOLED by the amendments to the Infrastructure Bill.

Drilling can still take place under your home without your permission – despite a petition against this from almost 400,000 people.

The ban on fracking in National Parks, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Sites of Special Scientific Interest still includes the phrase ‘except under exceptional circumstances’ i.e. No outright ban the Government can still make a decision to frack.

No fracking will be allowed on land which is located within the boundaries of a groundwater source protection zone. BUT the Government tabled a late amendment allowing the Secretary of State to define an SPZ, despite the Environmental Agency having maps clearly showing these areas which are used for all aspects of planning.

THE PRESSURE MUST BE KEPT UP, THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW with the election in May – write to your MP and to council candidates opposing fracking.

We know that fracking for gas and oil only makes climate change worse, and that we have real, clean solutions to our energy crisis that are readily available right now. Together we must stop the dash for gas.

No Fracking Anywhere! 26 January 12.30-3pm London

On 26th January MPs will vote on a proposal to ban fracking and on the controversial proposal to allow fracking under people’s homes without permission.  The vote is part of the government’s Infrastructure Bill and comes just two days before Lancashire County Council decide whether to approve Cuadrilla’s application to frack in Lancashire.
Please join the rally on 26th 12.30 – 15.00  outside parliament to make sure that MPs get the message that we DO NOT WANT FRACKING ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY.   Meet in Old Palace Yard.

Canterbury Debate

For those of you who were unable to attend the Canterbury debate last Wednesday the general consensus is that the anti fracking arguments won the debate.

Ruth Hayhurst who manages the brilliant Drill or Drop website (http://drillordrop.com)
has transcribed the whole debate that can be accessed at the following link:

On Thursday morning Julie Wassmer went on Radio Kent for a live debate on the issue with geologist Mike Riley MBE which can be listened to here:

The Canterbury Times covered a key point of the debate:

Finally, following the brilliant response to the KCC anti fracking petition, Tim Valentine is presenting the petition to KCC on Tuesday 25th and has sent the following information:

I have arranged for our petition to Keep Kent Frack Free to be delivered to David Brazier, Cabinet member for Environment and Transport at County Hall Maidstone at 2pm on Tuesday 25th November. A photographer from KM Group newspapers will meet us at 1.45.

It would be great if as many supporters as possible could be there to show opposition to fracking for the cameras. I will be driving from Faversham so can offer a lift. Let me know if you can offer a lift to others or need a lift. Or we can meet there at 1.40. Let me know if you can make it. My contacts details are below or 07752 191807 on the day.
